Cantiga 63: Because of Holy Mary.

How a man from Huesca, who played dice, denied Holy Mary and lost his speech. He went to Holy Mary of Salas on a pilgrimage and recovered it.

Refrain:
'Because of Holy Mary, the evildoer can lose his speech,
and likewise, if he sincerely repents, he can recover it by Her grace.'
Stanza 1
Concerning this, the Virgin Mary performed a very great m
iracle in Huesca for a man who had gambled at dice
a great deal in the gambling house and had lost all he had.
Therefore, he renounced the Virgin and refused to fear Her.
Because of Holy Mary, the evildoer can lose his speech...
Stanza 2
No sooner had he said this, he was crippled in his body because of the great blasphemy he had uttered, and, in the name of God, it was only just.
At once he lost his speech, for God had contempt for him
and took it from him in a flash, as though He said 'Hush!'
Because of Holy Mary, the evildoer can lose his speech...
Stanza 3
Thus he remained a long time, for he did not move from that place.
When he wanted something, he indicated it with signs.
In this way he asked to be taken from there to Salas.
His tongue made a sound like a crackling fire.
Because of Holy Mary, the evildoer can lose his speech...
Stanza 4
Gazing at Her statue, he wept copiously, and then he spoke
and said: 'Oh, Holy Mary, I beg you to pardon me
and from now on, if ever I play at dice,
may my tongue be stopped and never loosed again.'
Because of Holy Mary, the evildoer can lose his speech...
Stanza 5
As soon as he had said this, he was completely healed,
and all who saw this fervently praised
the Holy Virgin Mary. That man became a good Christian
and from then on always zealously praised Her.
Because of Holy Mary, the evildoer can lose his speech...

Eternally

Always, you know, I’ll wait for you
If you call for me, I’ll come to you
As long as there’s a heartbeat I feel in my chest
It will be for you, only for you, my love!

Shhh! People
Wish for the harlequin show
The little song of fortune
Young lady, give a few coins to the parrot
Parrot, thank the lady
Shhh! People
The harlequin show is over
Parrot, parrot, let’s go home

Eternally

Destiny separated our lives
But even far apart, we’ll be close inside
This love of ours
Is strong and will never die!

In my dreams, I’ll see you still
Wherever you are, with you I will
And in the air and in the things
All around me here
You will be there
Only you
Always you
Always, you know, I’ll wait for you
If you call for me, I’ll come to you
As long as there’s a heartbeat
I feel in my chest
It will be for you
Only for you
My love!

Always, you know, I’ll wait for you
If you call for me, I’ll come to you
As long as there’s a heartbeat
I feel in my chest
It will be for you
Only for you
My love!

Eulalia Torricelli

The characters in this song
Were invented by the authors
If they resemble any real people
Please forgive us, dear folks
Here we’re talking about a certain lady
Who let herself be kissed one night
By a forest ranger
By the name of De Rossi Giosuè

You don’t know her
She has beautiful eyes
(Who?)
Eulalia Torricelli from Forlì
You don’t know her
She owns three castles
(Who?)
Eulalia Torricelli from Forlì
One castle for eating
One castle for sleeping
One castle for loving
For loving De Rossi Giosuè
You don’t know her
She has beautiful eyes
(Who?)
Eulalia Torricelli from Forlì

Second part, second act
Eulalia has no rest
She says to De Rossi, “Let’s talk to my mother”
But he replies, “Oh, let it go!”
Then things get complicated
They get tangled up, and you know why?
With the train heading to Puglia
De Rossi Giosuè left

Eulalia Torricelli wants to die
(Hey!)
And she eats Giosuè’s matchsticks
She writes a will and leaves her three castles
(Hey!)
To those who have no castles, like me!
One castle in Novaga
One castle in Chiaramello
The most beautiful castle of all
She leaves to Claudio Villa
Then she gently closes her beautiful eyes
(Who?)
Eulalia Torricelli from Forlì

One castle in Novaga
One castle in Chiaramello
The most beautiful castle of all
She leaves to yours truly
Then she gently closes her beautiful eyes
(Who?)
Eulalia Torricelli from Forlì
